DESCRIPTION
The Workshop "Architecture for All" aims to analyze and improve the accessibility of Lingotto (Torino) with simple and proper solutions, both for mobility impaired people and for sensory impaired people. The winner project is by University of Pavia. The analysis pointed out 3 main problems for the accessibility of Lingotto: the distances - Lingotto is 500 m long which makes really difficult to reach different parts especially for weak people; the orientation system - outside and inside the building there are no landmark helping people understanding where they are; the uniformity - probably because of the strict grid which characterizes the building, every place is similar to another, which makes easy to get lost. The project includes a shuttle bus which goes around the building connecting public transport’s stops and parking to the main entrances, also to the Oval building. The re-design of the square, with new pavings, new trees and an INFO-BOX, aims to underline the main entrance of the building. For the inside the choices reguard new colored pavings able to make differences between spaces. The LOGES system and tactile maps are designed to answer the needs of blind and visually impaired people.
